Of interest

• Japan and the UK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The Repository Support Project (RSP, UK) and the Digital Repository Foundation (DRF, Japan) have signed, along with UKCoRR (United Kingdom Council of Research Repositories). More information is available on the RSP Blog.
• re3data.org and DataCite have announced a Memorandum of Understanding to define their efforts “to enhance accessibility and visibility of data sets”. More information is available on the re3data website.
• The OAS (Open-Access-Statistik) project from DINI (Deutsche Initiative Für Netzwerkinformation – Germany) has recently released information (only in German) around a feasability study completed in February 2012 on its website. The project is currently in its second phase and has three main objectives: To gather internationally comparable usage statistics; To provide lasting infrastructure; and To increase the acceptance of Open Access. The project has made several useful publications and presentations available on the DINI OAS website (most information available in English as well as German).
• The DCC (Digital Curation Centre) has released a “refreshed and replenished catalogue of tools and services for managing and curatins research data”, many of which may be of use and interest to the CAIRSS Community, particularly those involved in data management at their institution.
• EIFL has added a new “Useful Information” section to the EIFL website. The page includes links to IFLA’s Electronic Resource Guide; UKSG’s “The E-Resources Management Handbook”; the eVALUEd Toolkit from the University of Central England; and the NRF’s “Managing Digital Collections: A Collaborative Initiative on the South African Framework”.

Events

• The program information and workshop titles have been released for the 7th International Conference on Open Repositories which will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland from July 9 – 13, 2012. Registration for delegates is also open now. More information is available on the conference website.
• Open Access Week this year will be held 22 – 28 October 2012.
• eResearch Australasia will be held in Sydney from 28 October – 1 November 2012. Featured speakers will include Professor Anne Trefethen (Director, Oxford Research Centre); Rudolf Dimper (Head of ESRF Computing Services Division); and Dr Clifford Jacobs (National Science Foundation). More information will be released to the eResearch Australasia website.
• The B10 (Berlin 10) Open Access Conference will be held in Stellenbosch, South Africa from 6 – 8 November 2012. More information available on the conference website.

• COAR (Confederation of Open Access Repositories) will be launching a new project around “Sustainable Best Practices for Populating Repositories” through early 2012. It will look at both regional and global trends, and look at what lessons have been learnt, repository staffing, workflows, planning, processes for automating content gathering, and more. Further information can be found on the COAR website.

• The 7th International Conference on Open Repositories will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland from July 9 – 13, 2012. The submission deadline has been extended to March 5th, 2012. More information is available on the OR 2012 website.
• For those happy to extend their working hours, there is an Online Webinar run by the Repositories Support Proejct (RSP), UK to be held on Friday9th March at 11am UK-time around Web 2.0, Creative Commons Licences and orphan works. More information is available on the RSP website.
• Open Access Week this year will be held 22 – 28 October 2012.
